Why should I have a website?

Why should I have a website?

The heart of the web’s success is in connecting people with information, whether that be
a student looking for the nearest pizza parlor, or a local shoe store displaying its spring
collection to online shoppers. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, in
2008, 72% of Americans were online at least once a day, and 71% of online Americans
have bought a product via the web. The Internet provides a growing and increasingly vital
opportunity for businesses to reach new and existing customers with minimal costs. If
your customers are online, then the best way to connect with them is to join them there!

TO CREATE A SEARCH ENGINE FIRNDLY AND A SUCCESSFUL WEBSITE

TO CREATE A SEARCH ENGINE FIRNDLY AND A SUCCESSFUL WEBSITE

STEP 1: RESEARCH ON THE KEYWORD IN YOUR MARKET

Here I assume that you have services/product to publish in your website. You do need to do some research about what is your targeted market and the keyword you should use to target your visitors. You need to do some research and study your competition Website to see how they implement. You can either modify their idea or make a better Website over your competition. You can even see what the keyword use in your competition website is.

Assume that you’re your site is selling a ‘toys’. You need to go to Yahoo!, Google, MSN to search for the keyword ‘toys’. Investigate their site because they are your competitors. Sometimes you can use a phrase in the keyword research, for example. ‘my toys’ or ‘toys shop’, etc. Do do this, you would need a tools known as ‘Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI)’.

Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI) are use to determine the value of a keywords in your market. KEI compares the number of searches for a keyword with the number of search results to pinpoint which keywords are most effective for your campaign.
The suggestion tools for KEI are:

STEP 2: DOMAIN FINDING

After the keyword research, you should already have a list of your targeted keyword or phrases. The next thing is to pick a good domain name for your website url. Although, some search engine claim that they never listed a website in the search page based on the domain name. That is no harm if you are going to put your products name or services name in your domain name. Moreover, to put the keyword in domain name could help your visitor remember your site easily.

There are several extensions of a domain such as .com, .org, .edu, .etc. If you are target in the world wide, we suggest you to register in the .com domain name. If you are not sure this is a good domain name for your market. You can make a call to our domain expert do help you get a good domain.

STEP 3: WEBSITE DESIGN

A Website design is the combination of programming and the designing skill to create a digital presentation form in the Internet. There are various tools in the market to help you easily develop a web page. The Microsoft Front Page and DreamWeaver is the most popular tools used to develop a web page.

You may choose to develop your Web page by referring to your HTML books or hire an Web designer to do it for you if you are not sure how to develop a successful and search engine friendly Web site.

After you have you website designed. You must do some testing to ensure that your site is working nicely without any errors. The things you should test are listed below:

  1. Test your website in different monitor resolution. The standard resolution is 800x600.
  2. Test your website in different web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator, Safari, etc.

You might need to do some changes in your pages while testing to ensure your page is display nicely in all different environment.

After you have a website template. You can start to write your content and put the keywords you selected in your content.

STEP 4: HOSTING YOU WEBSITE

To choose a best suit web hosting services for your website. It depends on the kind of website you are operating. For example, a information viewing website only need a small storage spaces and low bandwidth. While e-commerce website needs a large storage space to store the items image/information and a high bandwidth usage web hosting.

Beside, some website are provides the servicing or sending newsletter daily to their subscriber. They might need a hosting that support the email sending or email auto-responder features.

There are some web hosting companies there they provides the hosting packages. For example, they might include the Website design in their hosting packages or a email server in their hosting packages.

After you have chosen your web hosting company and sign up with them. You need to login to your domain name account to change the DNS and point it to your web hosting DNS. Normally, it takes about 24-48 hours to update your domain in database and get access to your site.

STEP 5: UPLOAD YOUR PAGE ONTO WEB HOSTING SITE

At the same time you wait for your domain name to be indexing. You can upload all your web pages onto the web hosting from your local machine. There are various types of FTP software for you to do this, the recommended FTP software as below:

After you had all uploaded, wait for your domain name to get access.

STEP 6: On-Page Optimization

On-Page Optimization is the thing you should do before you start your Off-Page Optimization in Search Engine Optimization. On-Page factors are related directly to the content and structure of the Website. This normally consists of pages written in the HTML and the website design architecture. On-page optimization involves modifying keyword frequency in the URL, Title, Headings, Hypertext Links and Body content.

Each page should target between two and four keywords directly related to the contents. If you feel the need for more keywords then consider splitting your content into separate pages. The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) should contain keywords, separated by hyphens without being too long, around 128 characters is probably a sensible upper limit for the entire URL. The Ttle tag should contain the keywords because the Title taq would be the vital source for search engine to understand your page. Example of a Title tag:
<TITLE>Toys Shopping Center</TITLE>
Title tag should be the first tag in the Head section of a page. Beside you also need to create a Keyword and Description tag in your head section. Many website designers spend a lot of time creating keyword and description meta tags. Although these may be read by search engines, for example the description tag is used by Yahoo! To provide a short description of the site in the search engine results page, there are not used for ranking pages. But that is recommend to put your keyword in the meta keyword and description tags. Example as below,
<META NAME="keyword" content="toys, toys shopping center">
<META NAME="description" content="Toys shopping center provides the latest toys series for your children">
After the changes of your web pages, you do need to re-upload this entire file onto your web server to reflect the new changes.

It’s an organized gateway that helps to configure the access to information found on the Internet. Web portal application offers consistent look and feel with access control into multiple applications and databases. Some of the web portals are, AOL, iGoogle, Yahoo and even more.

Websites
