Design Principles - 設計原理

Design Principles - 設計原理

This is the article share by Operion founder who love perfection & beauty in his life. He use to turn the fashion, interior design and the technology thinking from movie into his web design output. It's fantastic if you also can mix up your skills and freely use it in your living.

Design is the human conscious, purposeful, a planned act of creation, in other words, that is, the use of medium and performance methods presented specific ideas, but the common element analysis and design is nothing more than shape, color and material, through design elements before the count fully demonstrated.

設計是人類有意識、有目的、有計畫的創造行為,換言之,即是運用媒介物及表現方法將構想具體呈現出來,但分析設計的共通要素不外乎形、色與材質,透過設計要素才使計充分展現。

27 Things That Help and Hurt SEO

27 Things That Help and Hurt SEO

I get asked this frequently – what works with SEO?  And the flip side to that coin, around what to avoid.  Before we start looking at some of these factors, it’s very important that you remember that for any given search algorithm, there are hundreds (or more) of factors at play to determine rankings.  No list can encompass them all, partly because of readability, but mostly because it’s proprietary information.
Additionally, factors can be relative.  If factor A is at a certain level, then factors B and C contribute accordingly.  If factor A’s value drops or increases, that causes changes to how the signals from B and C are integrated and thus the final result changes – sometimes minutely, sometimes dramatically.  It's a bit like a manual transmission in a car.  You can travel at 40 mph using 1st gear, 2nd gear or 3rd.  Still the same 40 mph, but due to the different gear ratios engaged with each individual selection (1st, 2nd or 3rd gear), the engine speed will vary, while maintaining that 40 mph.
In fact, it’s worth noting that instead of chasing SEO at the on page and technical levels, many would be better served by trying to influence people to impact some of those important signals and factors.  Rather than try to guess at information which is not ever shared, turning to working on influencing people and developing a repeatable pattern that works, is often a better bet.
If you can influence visitors to your site to share a link or tweet about your product by placing relevant social sharing options in the best locations (which you determine through testing, not guessing), you not only get the value of their efforts and actions directly (their friends seeing it and clicking through to you), but you also reap the rewards of how those signals impact the search algorithms.  In the end, you have discovered a process that’s repeatable as well – if you post a positive, funny article, for example, more people share it.  The process then becomes: write positive, funny article, post, use optimized social sharing option placements.
And that is infinitely easier to figure out than to try to guess what’s going on inside an engine’s algorithm.
But what things matter?  Well, let’s look at the common things, many of which are often overlooked or shortcuts taken.
What to pay attention to:
  • Title tags
  • Meta Descriptions
  • Clean URLs
  • Images and Alt descriptions (also called alt tags)
  • H1 tags
  • Rel=Canonical
  • Robots.txt
  • Sitemaps
• Social sharing options
  • Unique content
  • Depth of content
  • Matching content type to visitor expectations (text, images, video, etc.)
  • Usability Page load times (to a certain point – faster is great, but not at the expense of usability and usefulness)
  • Crawlability (AKA discoverability, so can we actually get to all your content)
  • News – if you are actually a new site, submit for inclusion
What to skip:
  • Meta Keywords (fill them in if you like, keep it short and relevant, but not a big ranking factor)
  • Duplicate URLs
  • Overly long URLs (no set number, but you’ve all seen these)
  • Cloaking (comes down to your intent, but risky business for sure)
  • Link buying
  • Selling links
  • Link and like farms
  • Three way links
  • Content duplication content
  • Auto following in social media
These list are, as suggested at the start of this article, not full lists.  These lists are also not in any particular order, as what matters in one instance will differ from other instances.  Some items will apply to you, some might not.  Some you may know already, others you may need to research to learn more about.  And taking something like H1 tags from the “pay attention to list” and saying “Yeah, we have those” does not mean you’re done.  You have to understand why an H1 tag is important to a reader, and earn how to write optimized content for them.  Just “having” a tag in place doesn’t mean yours are doing everything they can for you.
These lists can serve as a starting point for conversations around the work you’re planning to do and the investments you’ll make in your technologies and businesses.

Building Sitemaps Manually?… Stop Until You Read This!

Building Sitemaps Manually?… Stop Until You Read This!

SEO is a complex and ever changing area but there are some key elements that are still as relevant now as they were a few years ago. One of them is building high-quality XML Sitemaps, a comprehensive and accurate representation of your website. That way, you keep control of what you want search engines to index in order of priority and you inform them of new or updated content on your website.

Because XML Sitemaps are so important, we want to make it very easy for webmasters to generate them and publish them for the use of all search engines. That’s why we are excited to open today the public beta program for the Bing Sitemap Plugin, an open source server-side technology that takes care of generating XML Sitemaps compliant withsitemaps.org for websites running on IIS as well as Apache.

How does it work?
The Bing Sitemap Plugin generates two types of Sitemaps:
1. A comprehensive Sitemap of all URLs seen in server traffic
2. A Sitemap dedicated to store URLs that have changed recently

Having both comprehensive and delta Sitemaps provides you with significant benefits, as you will always have a full, up-to-date list of all URLs on your website that search engines can use for deep crawl, as well as a concise Sitemap of URLs that were modified recently, which search engine crawlers can prioritize. This can help in keeping bot traffic bandwidth down. In addition, the Sitemap Plugin automatically adds <lastmod> values to your Sitemap, and generates <priority> values to the Sitemap based on how popular your URLs are.

You can find more information about the Bing Sitemap Plugin in our Bing Webmaster help center.
If you want to jump in and go directly to the plugin download page, binaries for IIS (x64 and x86) and Apache (Linux) as well as the sources for both are available in the Microsoft download center.
We also welcome your feedback, suggestions and feature requests in the Bing Webmaster forums.

Search Engine Optimization for Bing

Search Engine Optimization for Bing

When I attended both SMX Advanced in Seattle back in June and SES San Jose just a couple of weeks ago, I heard a lot of questions from webmasters about Bing, especially pertaining to search engine optimization issues. Typically these included:
  • I want to do SEO for Bing—where should I start?
  • How is Bing different in terms of SEO?
  • What do webmasters need to know and do?
  • Are there any insider tips for successful ranking?
I’ll tackle these questions by providing some useful, baseline information and include pointers to more detailed, pertinent docs.
As you know, Bing is an evolution in the search engine space. With its innovative, new user interface (UI) design bringing new depth and opportunities for searchers, they can now quickly find the information they seek when they search the Internet. New UI features, such as Quick Tabs, Related Searches, and Document Preview (to name just a few), surface more information and present more opportunities to discover what searchers want to know so they can make more informed decisions more quickly. As a result, we describe Bing as a decision engine. (For more information on the new UI features in Bing, see the Bing Webmaster Center blog post, Bing white paper for webmasters & publishers released.)
Under the covers of the new UI, we do a lot of engineering work on a very large scale. For example, we crawl a variety of content types found on the Web, index that content, apply appropriate algorithms, and finally send relevant content to user queries in our search engine results pages (SERPs).
Bing’s SEO principles
SEO is fundamentally about creating websites that are good for people. The most basic advice we can give for achieving optimum rank for your site in Bing is to do the following:
As you can see by the links, much of this material has already been discussed in-depth in the Webmaster Center team blog in our ongoing column, search engine marketing (SEM) 101.
The type of SEO work and tasks webmasters need to perform to be successful in Bing hasn’t changed—all of the legitimate, time-tested, SEO skills and knowledge that webmasters have invested in previously apply fully today with Bing. Moreover, investments in solid, reputable SEO work made for Bing will bring similar improvements in your website’s page rank in other search engines as well.
Ultimately, SEO is still SEO. Bing doesn’t change that. Bing’s new user interface design simply adds new opportunities to searchers to find what the information they want more quickly and easily, and that benefits webmasters who have taken the time to work on the quality of their content, website architecture, and have done the hard work of earning several high-quality inbound links.
